Greenpeace emailed me with the following:

.........How to Comply with the Landfill Directive without Incineration:

ctive-without-incineration

Incineration and Human health:

For more recent research dispelling myths about safety advances of incineration etc you could try contacting GAIA: http://www.no-burn.org/ all the issues seem to be basically the same as ten years ago unfortunately.

Greenpeace maintain that apart from health concerns and local pollution created by incineration of waste, incineration cannot be a sustainable way of dealing with waste, and in fact it risks creating a demand for waste, and therefore reducing the motivation to reduce the amount of waste we produce in the first place.

Friends of the Earth may also be able to help you with more current data as they may have an ongoing campaign and local groups you could contact for help: www.foe.co.uk/feedback.html and may have a local group campaigning against the incinerator in your area.......'
