Beautiful Demoiselle in Norfolk!!!

In a private garden yesterday (15th August).

"The Beautiful Demoiselle (Calopteryx virgo) was extinct in Norfolk, with the last record being in the 1970's, until 2006 brought reports from four seperate locations in Norfolk."

  1. Hi Penny,

Is there any evidence that it was definitely a Beautiful Demoiselle ie a photo?

The reason I ask is because every other female Banded Demoiselle at Strumpshaw gets reported as Beautiful.

Would be great to have them in Norfolk again after such an absence though... Here's hoping!

    Cheers-Ben

  2. Hi Ben

Definitely a Beautiful Demoiselle, but sadly no photo. It was described as a shimmering purple/blue colour. The person who saw it is familiar with banded demoiselles, both male and female. Sadly no sign of it today, otherwise I would have shot over there to take a picture!

If you see my link there were four different reports in Norfolk in 2006.

    Cheers
    Penny
