At last my luck has changed big time!!! Just heard a SCOPS OWL calling, just after 12.15am – in what must be the very large willow tree in my neighbours garden!!! Just before getting into bed I looked out of the window at the star filled sky, when I heard an unfamiliar call.... a low, repeated, short whistle which was difficult to describe exactly, but at this time of the morning I was obviously thinking owl. It was obviously not tawny, little owl or even eagle owl. My imagination was racing with excited thoughts about one other owl – could it be? I couldn't turn the Macbook on quick enough – googled Scops Owl and listened to the call – OMG that was it!!!!! Raced back upstairs to listen again and smiled – it was, it really was! I have at last found my mega – a SCOPS OWL!!! Unbelieavable, so excited at my mega find and I haven't even left the house!!!
Now.... because this is a residential area (in an area with no public access) and with absolutely atrocious parking availability, I won't be able to give out the exact location I'm afraid. This means I will be hung, drawn and quartered by the birding fraternity, especially those in the east! But not alot I can do about it I'm afraid. Really hope this mega bird is here at dawn for me to capture on camera for a major scoop!!! Can't wait to slap the pictures on RBA ready for MAG's review later today!!! You never know, I might even get picture of the week on Birdguides! Still calling now at 1am.
Wahooooo!!!!!
Will update you all later in the morning.
Perhaps it was looking for the Snowy Owl from April 1st last year?
