First Day of New Job as Occupational Therapy Assistant at Gilbert Bain Hospital, Shetland!

A fabulous first day in my new job! Working with two exceptionally lovely OT's and all the staff I met were very friendly and welcoming indeed. I was very surprised to find that I have my own desk area, computer and phone! It was comforting to see lots of familiar equipment. The canteen looks enticingly good with very interesting dessert options. Induction week, in summary! Very interesting how the uniforms are so different to Norfolk – the PT's and OT's all wear the same uniform colour, navy trousers and "Mediterranean Blue" tunic with navy piping, with PT or OT embroidered on tunic. TA's wear "Pale Sky Blue" tunics with navy piping, as do the Health Care Assistants and again, job role/dept embroidered on tunic. My tunic is much more comfortable than my last one, with no collar, simple v-neck and pull over head, not zip etc, but two pockets instead of four, means I won't be able to have my full selection of pens 😉 but there is an added bonus of big pockets, half way down both trouser legs! There is a lovely turquoise theme throughout the hospital, even the patient's blankets are a dark turquoise – my favourite colour. How many MDT rooms have an entire sea view, wow! All good so far and a 2 minute walk to work!

Yesterday was spent, measuring, pinning, turning up and hand sewing four sets of uniform trousers. Had a bracing and fabulous evening walk from my house around "The Sletts" and saw two swallows.
