No Birding, not feeling well

Sadly no birding today as I had planned, as feeling really rough, so much so that I took a Covid test, but this showed negative, so its not that. My eyes are burning and I can't keep awake, feels like I have a temperature. I have been asleep most of the day – will see how I am in the morning.

Update: Wednesday – wasn't able to go to work. Didn't get up until 1pm and then slept on sofa the rest of the day, still feeling rubbish.

BOXING DAY ON THE BOAT!

BOXING DAY – Monday 26th December

A bit late with this post as I fell asleep this evening!

Lucy and I went to Ely today and spent the afternoon and evening with Vivien and Ray on their lovely narrow boat for Boxing Day lunch! Ray's coleslaw with walnuts was particularly yummy and the buffet style lunch was fabulous. We couldn't fit any dessert in until later on. So after chatting and a brief walk around the marina, we returned to Ray's heavenly lemon cheesecake – nothing I had today was Slimming World compliant!!! Lucy and I had bought over lots of goodies too, including my home-made Carrot Cake, Victoria Sandwich, Chocolate Crunch, Shortbread Biscuits and also purchased items from M&S etc! Ray declared that my Carrot Cake was the best he had ever tasted and Vivien smiled and said that's a 'serious compliment, coming from Ray'. Lucy and I have established a while back, that Ray is a pretty good cook to say the least, I think I will start referring to him as Chef Raymondo 😉!

Lucy was delighted to spot several Canada Geese swimming past the boat, only yards from us and we also saw four of the resident Muscovy Ducks around the Marina on our little walk – it was very sad to hear Vivien telling us, that nearly all the resident Swans have been lost to bird flue. Vivien and Ray's Christmas decorations looked very pretty all around the windows and it all looked very festive with their fancy new fire (difficult to describe). A lovely afternoon, but for some reason I started to feel overwhelmingly exhausted – I have no idea why, maybe it was all the extra food that I'm not used to consuming, or maybe I was coming down with something – hopefully not! Oh and we also heard a Tawny Owl calling from near the boat, just before we left – maybe it was in the huge walnut tree?!

CHRISTMAS DAY!

Not one of my best Christmas Days to be honest. For some reason I had a rubbish night's sleep and then I was woken by a text from Vivien, to tell me that Lucy had sudden and severe pain in her lower left back, that was so bad she was crying. I immediately tried to ring Lucy, but no reply – rang the staff where she lives, who gave me an update. Long story short, I think Vivien may be right, she may have had a gallstone or even a kidney stone. After two hours the pain had disappeared completely. When Lucy told me all her symptoms later on, I think she may have had a kidney stone. This made the entire morning quite stressful. Plans went out of the window for the first half of the day. I didn't cook Christmas dinner for myself and instead picked at grapes and tangerines etc.

Lucy was supposed to be ringing me when she wanted to be picked up after her Christmas dinner and usual afternoon snooze, but she didn't ring until 3.30pm. I had not intended in being on my own for that long, but hey ho! Picked Lucy up and we spent the evening together and had cheese & tomato on toast with chips and my baking from yesterday. Lucy was very stressed because of her onset of pain this morning and wasn't able to really enjoy her evening with me, as much as she would do normally. An odd food day and an odd Christmas Day! Goodnight!

Christmas Eve – Baking Day!

CARROT CAKE

Today I spent the afternoon and evening baking for Lucy, Vivien & Ray. I went a bit crazy and baked several things! A fabulous adapted Carrot Cake recipe that has featured on my blog before – here is the link and recipe, Mary Berry's Victoria Sandwich, adapted version (butter cream and crushed raspberries with the raspberry jam in the middle😋), Chocolate Crunch and Shortbread Biscuits! There was an insane amount of washing-up and my hands now feel like sandpaper! It was the first time I have had to use my oven, since I purchased the Ninja Foodi Max Pro Health Grill in September!

Topped up all the bird feeders, cleaned the bird baths out and put lots of goodies out for the birds. I really miss seeing a Song Thrush in my garden – I can't remember the last time I saw one here, so sad – one would instinctively appear, when I had put dried fruit out, but not any more 😞.

🌟🎄 🎉 🍰 🔔 🎁 🎅 ⭐

I was at work last week (Wednesday, Thursday and Friday) and although I love my job, scraping ice from two cars each morning wasn't funny – had to do my car, in order to get to work and then the car I go out into the Community with!

One morning last week, I heard a Chiffchaff calling briefly in the birches at the QEH, but no binoculars with me and couldn't see it anyway.

The diet has been going fabulously and I have almost lost 1.5 stones so far and won several 'Slimmer of the Week' awards over the weeks. I have only put weight on once, a pound (last week) since I started in late September – but there is still a long way to go!

There was a Stroke Christmas Party this year, but I was a 'bah humbug' and didn't go, but from pictures and videos on FB, it looked like some of my colleagues had a highly 'spirited' evening!

I'm on my own for Christmas Day morning and lunch, but picking Lucy up in the afternoon and bringing her back to mine for tea and the evening. Getting together with Lucy, Vivien & Ray on Boxing Day and birding on the Tuesday!

Enjoy your festivities, family time and birding and if you are on your own, no worries, its just another day! The huge advantage of being on your own, is that you don't have the massive stress and hard work that some of the woman I know, have to go through every Christmas Day, because their family expect it! Mind you, I would give anything to be cooking for my parents tomorrow. The last Christmas I had with my mother was in 2017. Treasure every Christmas with loved ones 💞
