Cley NWT!

Cley Church from the East Bank at Cley

Headed east – got the car washed on route, which was way overdue and then headed for Cley. Popped into CleySpy at Glandford to get my Swarovski phone scoping adapter adjusted, bought a new 'Healthy Back Bag' and then parked up in the East Bank car park at Cley. I soon realised that I would need all layers, hat and mittens!

It was very cold and windy, but the sun was out and it was a beautiful walk along the East Bank. My parents met here – my main reason for coming here today, to remember them both. Lots of Brent Geese, Wigeon, Gadwall, Shelducks, Shoveler, Teal, Redshanks, Mute Swans, Little Egrets, Herons, Starlings and Reed Buntings. Lots of gulls on Arnold's Marsh and big numbers on the sea too. It was a bracing walk! The sea was magical with big waves crashing onto the shingle.

I've been pretty down over the last few weekends and couldn't even be bothered to leave the house much – which is why there hasn't been much bird news from me, plus the weather has been utterly rubbish. It did me good to get out today and visit one of my favourite places. Roll on Spring!

In Memory Of My Dear Father

PETER CLARKE
with Penny at Titchwell RSPB

2nd November 1926 — 23rd February 2017

Three years ago, you left us – it doesn't seem that long ago at all. I think of you every day. I still see your smile and hear your laugh. Happy memories will never fade. When you were in the care home, not that long before you passed away, I distinctly remember you patting your hand on mine and giving me a little smile in thanks, when I told you that Holme Bird Observatory was going to have a plaque in your honour of being warden there from 1962 to 1994 – I'm so glad you got to know that before you passed away, so glad.

I still feel so lost without you and mother. You were both my rock, my best friends, my advisors, my everything. I miss you both so much. We played The Lark Ascending at your funeral and Lucy will be playing this at her next concert – that will be very emotional to listen to. Maybe you will hear her play from up above with the larks.

Forever in my heart  💔

Harry Styles - Falling (Live From The BRIT Awards, London 2020)

One of my favourite artists, STORMZY!

Billie Eilish - No Time To Die (Live From The BRIT Awards, London)

Billie Eilish is so incredibly talented and only 18! I was first aware of her when I watched Glastonbury on TV last summer – I loved the fact that she was having a fabulous time, got the crowd going crazy and didn't conform to the typical pop star dress attire!

Dave - Black (Live at The BRITs 2020)

The best live and most moving performance I have ever seen on TV and aside from seeing Michael Jackson three times in concert, probably the best performance I've EVER seen. The simplicity of sitting and playing the piano so beautifully with such thought provoking lyrics...... I was moved to tears by the end. GENIUS.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LUCY!

Very sadly I won't be seeing Lucy on her birthday today, as not well enough. Vivien re-booked our Prezzo's evening meal to 12pm today (due to weather) and sent me pictures from their lunch, so glad that Lucy had a nice time. I will have to make it up to her when I'm better and we will go for a second birthday lunch!

I had a better night's sleep than the night before, but was woken up very early with severe pain in my right lower back, as though it was my kidneys maybe? But, this disappeared later, after my intake of water has increased. I feel very weak and sleepy today and havn't been able to eat very much at all, as my stomach still hurts. I was quite shocked to see snow falling here about an hour ago!!! Its too wet on the ground to lay seriously though.

Storm Ciara Wreaks Havac!

So far, I have got away lightly. There was one particular massive gust with pouring rain that shifted and turned over my heaviest plant pots in the garden, knocked the chairs and tables over and a back fence panel has come down. One of my neighbours has lost sections of their TV aerial which was scattered across the roof (I am in a block of four houses).

In Memory Of Your 80th Birthday Today!

My dear mother would have been 80 years old today

HAPPY BIRTHDAY
I keep this video on my desktop on Mac, so I can look at it whenever I want to feel close. It was taken exactly two years ago tomorrow at Lucy's 50th Birthday lunch at Briarfield's Hotel, Titchwell. Mother had no idea I was doing a video, she thought I was taking a picture. I wish I hadn't stopped videoing when I did, but there we go.

I still miss you so much, every day. Time does not heal at all really. You were a larger than life character and will never fade into the background – you will always be at the forefront of my memory.
All my love Penny 💔 xxxxxx

In A&E All Morning!

Further to my post yesterday, I had a very rough night. I continued to feel very faint with severe acid reflux and could not lay down to sleep at all. Googling Doctor Google, I sat up on sofa, but lets be honest nobody can get to sleep properly sitting up. I struggled all night. I couldn't even drink water because of the severity of the acid. I took an extra 30mg tablet of Lanzoprazole, which didn't really make any difference. By the morning I was completely worn out and exasperated. I decided to ring NHS 111 as I couldn't drink or eat and needed some advice. There was no way I was going to A&E wasting valuable staff time etc. After ringing 111 and then speaking to a doctor on the phone, they advised me to go to A&E within the hour, as severe acid reflux can be a sign of more serious things eg heart. They advised me to get someone to take me, hmmmm...... who? I certainly wasn't going to infect any of my work colleagues with my virus, so took myself to A&E.

I was very lucky indeed, as there were only about half a dozen people in the waiting room. I didn't feel particularly safe sitting down, I nearly laid down on the floor I felt so faint. I was seen fairly promptly by a triage nurse, who did my obs. My temperature was high and my blood pressure was low. Then I had to wait in the waiting room again and was called back and put onto a trolley, where they did an ECG, took bloods and inserted a cannula with a bag of fluids. I had obs taken again several times and at one point my BP dropped to 99 over sixty something. A very flamboyant A&E doctor then attended and assessed me. I was dehydrated because of lack of fluids and probably faint because I had not eaten since yesterday lunchtime. He thought that because of the virus I have, that my acid reflux was exacerbated and he explained that this should settle down. He couldn't believe that my GP had not sent me for further investigations since I have been on Lanzoprazole for so many years. He said he will write to my GP to advise that I have an endoscopy – he went on to explain that I may not be on the correct tablet anyway, depending on what is going on exactly. He advised me to eat very lightly eg fruit only for the next for days and to rest at home. All the staff in A&E were awesome, very kind and caring indeed – couldn't fault them at all. As I left, the waiting room was bursting at the seams.

So no work for the next few days and Vivien and Lucy will be celebrating Lucy's birthday alone tomorrow. We were going to Prezzos in the evening. We will have to meet up again when I am well. On hindsight, I really regret going to Cambridge on the train, how stupid was I!!! I still have a temperature this evening and my stomach is still painful, fruit is not going down very well either.

Feeling Very Unwell

I nearly didn't do the bird news just now, as I feel very unwell indeed. I woke up this morning with a cold virus, but forced myself to go to Cambridge on the train to buy Lucy's birthday present (birthday on Monday), which was a new music stand as her stand had broken. There are no music shops in King's Lynn now (there used to be). On the way home on the train I felt very ill, in fact it was a very frightening experience when you are on your own. I came over really faint and almost blacked out – I could feel myself going – everything started to go dark and then I didn't. Straight away I felt really clammy and like I couldn't breathe. My stomach kept going into little spasms of pain and I remained feeling light headed throughout the journey and this evening. I was screaming to get off that train, I needed air desperately and I felt like being sick. When I got off the train in King's Lynn, I couldn't walk as I felt so wobbly, so sat on a seat whilst everyone rushed passed past me – I did tell train staff by the ticket machine in case I collapsed, but they didn't really respond. I managed to drive home and collapsed on the sofa. All my fingers turned white and cold with pins and needles – which did disappear eventually after a long time. I have remained feel light headed for the rest of the evening with stomach pains and have not wanted to eat at all. I had severe acid reflux, which is normally controlled by my Lanzoprazole, but it was having no effect whatsoever. I have just been drinking a lot of water. Good night.
