SHETLAND BIRD NEWS & MORE!

Rare  Bird  Alert  News
MAINLAND

Red-necked Grebe at marina, Pool of Virkie.

ISLANDS
Taiga Bean Geese x 6 at Ordaal, near Baltasound, Unst.

Had a lovely lie in – first one since arriving back home. Then had a GP appointment to find out that I have "Extensor Tenosynovitis" in my right thumb, which was triggered by gripping my steering wheel for too long a period on my Norfolk trip. I have not been able to grip anything at all or use my thumb to press anything either, which has been very frustrating. I was advised to apply Voltarol gel and massage three times a day and to wear a futura splint when needed (I have one of this splints already from a previous injury).

Back at home I cooked brunch. Lots of usual birds in the garden. Fell asleep on the sofa and then started amending and editing my Norfolk Trip report which I had written daily whilst I was away – this is now finished and published (scroll further down to 31st March) and just need to add some photos. Heavy rain here now late evening. Storm 'Dave' is on the way! 🌬

SHETLAND BIRD NEWS & MORE!

Rare  Bird  Alert  News
MAINLAND
Bonaparte's Gull feeding at Heogan Pier off Gremista, Lerwick.
Red-necked Grebe at marina, Pool of Virkie.

ISLANDS
Thayer's Gull (probable) at Easter Loch, Uyeasound, Unst.

I left my binoculars and camera at home, so was not able to look for the Bonaparte's Gull after work and didn't have the energy to return to Lerwick again. Rain and gloomy weather for most of the day, but a glorious sunny evening, but in the last hour its been heavy rain again.

Female Chaffinch in my garden this evening along with the usual House Sparrows, Starlings, pair of Blackbirds, Rock Dove and Collared Doves. I feel pretty sure I saw a Great Tit fly over my neighbour Jimmy's garden from my living room window, but couldn't re-find it.
