Holme Reserves and Titchwell RSPB!

The recent Little Bittern at Titchwell RSPB, reappeared again this morning, which was a surprise for a few lucky birders – although there were only three viewings between 7.20am and 9.05am – a little elusive one might say!

It was a frosty start to the day and sunshine all day long! Two Common Buzzards were circling above the roundabout at the north end of Dersingham Bypass. Headed for Holme reserves and had a lovely surprise at the NOA car park with a pair of Stonechats feeding on the short turf and also a Kestrel hovering close by. Chatted with a man who reads my blog and then with Dave N. Walked across the dunes and along the path behind the pines in hope that the recent Pallas's Warbler may still be around – apart from a Robin nothing else seen. Lots of Mallards, Little Grebes etc on the Broadwater. Chatted with Sophie for a while and then guess who popped in? John Sheldrake! I hadn't seen him since mother's funeral. John used to be the Chairman for the NOA back in the day and is a long time family friend, it was lovely to see him.

Late lunch at Holme Dunes NWT and had a quick catch up with Gary H. Left and headed to Titchwell RSPB. Every time I pass Aslack Way in Holme, I feel incredibly sad – I think I'm going to have avoid this area altogether, too much to cope with.

At Titchwell RSPB I saw a Cetti's Warbler, a Goldcrest and several Long-tailed Tits along the Fen Trail and then stood with others at Patsy's Pool in hope of seeing the Little Bittern. At least 12 Marsh Harriers in the roost and a very rough estimate of 100 Little Egrets roosting in the trees!!! There was probably more to honest, it was a real job to count them and lots were dropping down out of view behind the trees – but it was a real spectacle! No sign of the Little Bittern. If I wasn't at work all day tomorrow, I would be at Titchwell at first light! Good luck for anyone going.

My sister Vivien and her partner Ray landed at Paphos, Cyprus today for a week's holiday to celebrate Vivien's 50th birthday, which is on Monday 11th November.
