PLEASE FORWARD THIS EMAIL TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE.

DEAR RESIDENT

92.68% of residents voted "NO" to the building of an incinerator in West Norfolk...
...but the County Council are still going ahead with it

FIRST OF ALL A BIG THANK YOU - WHETHER YOU LEAFLETED, WROTE LETTERS OR TOOK THE TIME TO VOTE 'NO' IN THE WEST NORFOLK REFERENDUM - YOUR SUPPORT HAS BEEN AMAZING AND WE'RE SORRY WE COULDN'T TAKE THE TIME TO THANK YOU ALL PERSONALLY.

AS YOU MAY HAVE HEARD, NORFOLK COUNTY COUNCIL (NCC) HAVE TAKEN THE DECISION TO IGNORE YOUR VOTE, AND THE VOTES OF 65,516 RESIDENTS IN TOTAL. THIS NOW MAKES OUR CAMPAIGN ONE OF NATIONAL IMPORTANCE, AS OUR DEMOCRACY IS BEING UNDERMINED. WHAT HAPPENS IN WEST-NORFOLK TODAY, COULD HAPPEN TO PEOPLE IN OTHER PARTS OF THE COUNTRY TOMORROW.

OVER THE LAST FEW DAYS WE HAVE RECEIVED MANY ENQUIRIES FROM FRUSTRATED RESIDENTS, ASKING WHAT THEY CAN DO.

WE HAVE COME-UP WITH THE FOLLOWING ACTION PLAN:

1. IMPORTANT: Please come to King's Lynn Town Hall this Thursday, 17 March at 6.30pm. A special Borough Council meeting has been arranged to discuss the results of the incinerator referendum. This meeting is open to the public and is being held in The Assembly Room, Town Hall, Saturday Market Place, King's Lynn, Norfolk, PE30 5DQ. Whether you want to attend the meeting or just turn-up outside, please come as we want as many people as possible to show OUR DEMOCRATIC RIGHTS WILL NOT BE IGNORED.

2. Please click on the following link: http://38degrees.uservoice.com/forums/78585-campaign-suggestions/suggestions/1567639-campaign-to-stop-a-waste-incinerator-being-built-i
The organisation 38 Degrees brings people together to take action on the issues that matter most in the UK. They recently helped stop our forests being sold-off. To urge 38 degrees to support our campaign all you have to do is visit the link above, register an email address and click ‘vote’, using your maximum of 3 votes. Please encourage friends and family to take this simple step so we can make our campaign the top campaign and get the whole nation behind us. We have already moved from no. 800 to no. 6!

3. Please write to your MP, the Prime Minister and the Secretary of State and demand that they stop Norfolk County Council from ignoring a democratic decision made by the people of this country.

4. Support your independent candidates in the May 2011 West Norfolk Borough Council Elections. Over the coming weeks, key residents will be taking a stand against Councillors who voted 'YES' to the incinerator.
Furthermore, if you or someone you know would like to consider becoming an independent councillor, please contact Colin Gathercole on 01553 763020 colingathercole@gmail.com for details. Being a councillor is likely to take up a couple of hours per week of your time and could really help make a difference in the campaign against the incinerator. This request is not just for West Norfolk residents.

5. DON'T GIVE UP.
Norfolk County Council's decision to ignore the referendum was predictable. Before the referendum took place, one of our supporters reported to the Lynn News that they overheard Derrick Murphy, Leader of Norfolk County Council, say in a local shop that the incinerator is going to be built anyway, no matter the result of the referendum. Also, please read the following EDP24 article which clearly shows the intention to undermine the referendum, as advised by PPS the PR consultants hired by Cory Wheelabrator (the US/Anglo firm awarded the contract to build the incinerator).
"A tale of spin behind the scenes - Cory Wheelabrator’s £140 an hour PR consultants warned that yesterday’s announcement would be “critical to (the) overall credibility of the project and its management team, if not the final result of the planning application”. A report by Paul Kelly, of the PPS Group, says the pro-incinerator camp should not appear “high-handed” to the people of West Norfolk. “The media and other stakeholders will want to know the sequence and detail of events,” it says. “We need to decide what they can be told and whether we will agree such lines to take with the council first or act unilaterally.” PPS suggested ways in which Cory Wheelabrator’s refusal to take part in the council poll could be spun. “We need to suggest that our absence from the referendum undermines the moral value of it and that it carries no legal value in any event,” notes Mr Kelly. Of its own survey, carried out by researchers ComRes, it notes: “We might want to offer the borough council a chance to see our research results (depending how they look). We might extend this to the local MPs.” PPS is charging Cory Wheelabrator £140 an hour to monitor the media, “rebut negative stories” and advise on strategy. In one e-mail accompanying details of its proposed charges, its director Rebecca Eatwell says: “We’d be more than happy to discuss a success-related bonus for this work going forward, if that is of interest.”

SO PLEASE STAY STRONG WITH YOUR SUPPORT AND DON'T LET THE SPIN GET YOU DOWN. IN FACT, THIS ONLY HELPS CONVINCE OUR SUPPORTERS FURTHER THAT THE COUNCIL CANNOT BE TRUSTED. WE HAVE BEEN RECEIVING MESSAGES FROM MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC WHO WERE PREVIOUSLY UNDECIDED ABOUT THE INCINERATOR BUT BECAUSE OF THE WAY THE COUNCIL HAVE ACTED, THEY ARE NOW FIRMLY AGAINST THE INCINERATOR PLAN. ONE SUCH EMAIL OF SUPPORT WAS FROM AN EX-SERVICEMAN WHO FOUGHT FOR DEMOCRACY AND FEELS SO STRONGLY ABOUT NCC'S DECISION TO IGNORE IT THAT HE WILL NOW JOIN THE THOUSANDS OF OTHER PEOPLE TO FIGHT THIS PROJECT ALL THE WAY.

TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
