Chiffchaff
'The Plantation' – Blakeney Point
Wells
Started at Wells this morning, hoping for Wood Warbler, Yellow-browed Warblers, Parrot Crossbills etc etc. All I saw was one Ring Ouzel and one Sparrowhawk, very poor for £3.00 parking! Not happy. I was there while both Parrot Crossbills were seen, gutted.
The highlight of the day was masses of Starlings, Blackbirds, Song Thrushes Redwings flying overhead throughout the day.
Garden Drove, Warham
Nothing at all apart from a Chiffchaff and a couple of Goldcrests. Bumped into young Ben who runs a blog but I can't remember the name of it now, sorry! I think it was Moysie's Birding Blog. The stubble field west of the track has now been ploughed, so no walking in there now!

Blakeney Point
Redwings, Blackbirds, Song Thrushes, Reed Buntings, a few Goldcrests were seen on route and also fabulous views of a Short-eared Owl that I flushed at just before Halfway House at 3.22pm. The reported Yellow-browed Warbler was showing nicely in 'The Plantation' along with a Chiffchaff and a Robin right up until dusk. 2 Goldcrests and 2 Blackbirds were in the large tamarisk close by. A long, soul destroying walk back on the shingle in the dark as the tide was high.
Think I might cancel a couple of day's of my holiday next week, especially as I have virtually no holiday left until end of March!
Blimey! No 17 in the 'Fatbirder Birding Top 1000'
Hi Penny, Don't worry about the blog title. It's Moysie's Birding Blog, but as I said, don't worry. We went to Wells Wood in the afternoon and had the Shag, Yellow-browed Warbler and 4 Parrot Crossbills that flew over us. Great meeting you. Ben.
ReplyDeleteHi Ben! I do like to get things right Ben, so I apologise for incorrect title! Will amend on my post. Well done with the birds you saw, sounds like you had a fab afternoon. Great to meet you too. So nice to see young people out birding and so enthusiastic, we need more!
