Shocking News: Fair Isle Bird Observatory Destroyed In Devastating Fire!!!

This is shocking and devastating news, I couldn't believe it when John F. sent me a text message to let me know.

I see on the latest update on the BBC that is reads "... much of the building has been completely destroyed...." I can't quite take this in! I presume it was an electrical fault, I can't think how else it would have started!!! The main thing is that everyone is safe, but what a dreadful, heartbreaking thing to happen!😭😥😧

Roy Dennis has just written the following on Twitter: "Absolutely tragic news – our famous Fair Isle Bird Observatory has been lost to fire. Thank goodness no loss of life but heartfelt sympathy to David, Susannah and family and the islanders. We will rebuild. We have lost much and will lose a year. Close to my heart - very very sad."

My thoughts are with all the islanders on Fair Isle, but especially to the Parnaby family who have lost their home and all their possessions. Heartbreaking for everyone.
