NEW YEAR'S EVE, SHETLAND BIRD NEWS & MORE!

Rare  Bird  Alert  News
MAINLAND
Russian White-fronted Goose near Quendale.

ISLANDS
No news.

60mph winds and rain this afternoon and evening. Now finished work and have four days off. Expected back at work on Monday, but the big question is, will we all be snowed in?!

My phone back up chargers are all charged up just in case and an extra of bucket of logs in the house in case its too dodgy to go up the 6 concrete steps to the wood shed!

Lit the fire and watched TV, had a pizza for tea and Tiramisu. Phoned Lucy, Vivien & Ray. No exciting celebrations in my house!

"A weather warning for snow and ice has been issued for Shetland with gale force winds expected to cause significant drifting from New Year’s Day onwards.

The Met Office said showers would increasingly turn to snow through New Year’s Day while winds are also forecast to strengthen.

Frequent and heavy snow showers may lead to some travel disruption to begin the year,” it said.

By the evening, accumulations are expected with as much as 10cm forecast for some areas by Friday morning.

Given the strength of the wind some significant drifting of snow is likely the Met Office added."
