The Cat Has Sadly Moved Home!

Another sad and very difficult day with re-homing the cat and re-uniting our parents. The cat found my mother many years ago. I can't exactly remember how many years ago, but it must be getting on for around 10 years I reckon. Mother first saw the cat sleeping under a tree in the snow – hardy cat! Over time, my mother won the cat over with food, love and warmth and the stray cat found a new home. The cat that mother never actually named, has been spoilt completely with a choice of beds both inside and out, grated cheese, fresh fish, biscuits and the most expensive tins of cat meat. It wasn't until only a couple of years ago, that a local neighbour noticed the cat had a notch in her right ear and said that it looked like 'Missy' from the White Horse Pub in Holme. There had been a fire at the pub and both the neighbour and mother presumed from rumours, that 'Missy' had escaped from the fire and simply not returned. Apparently Missy was one of several siblings that lived at the pub.

As my mother's health deteriorated, she was extremely concerned about what would happen to the cat and this constantly stressed her. Mother was right, the cat could not leave Holme, it had spent its entire life here. It has constantly been stressing us since Mother's death too. We decided the best thing to do, was to ask the lady that ran the pub if she would be happy for Missy to return to her original home, via the pub's Manager and we were very pleased and grateful that they happily agreed.
So today, 'Sam' (manager) came to pick Missy up in our cat carrier to return to her home and we were told that her brother was still alive – so hopefully they will bond and re-unite. I cried as she left the house, it was awful to see her being taken from her home and beautiful garden, where she has spent so many happy sunny days. The only other choice would have been to put her in a cattery where she would have been stuck in a pen for months on end and that would have been heartbreaking and cruel.

I truly hope and pray that Missy will be happy back in her original home – she will be missed so much by all of us. She will be kept in one room for a while so she settles a bit before they let her out. She is such a fiesty, hardy and determined cat, it wouldn't surprise me at all if she turned up on mother's doorstep one day – I really hope that doesn't happen though, as there will be nobody here after we have finished sorting the house.
