Strong winds and rain on and off all day long and a little on the chilly side. My thumb is much improved, the steriod injection has done its magic, thumb still clicking and a little painful, but vastly better than it was so far. Same birds in the garden as yesterday.
The fires raging in The Cairngorms National Park are a devastating situation and the fire crews should have had more help sooner from what I have read. Nobody knows how it started but on the subject of fires, I strongly believe that disposable barbecues should not be sold and should be banned altogether. Tesco here sell them – piles of them all stacked up in the front entrance and sold in other places here too. They are an accident waiting to happen – sadly there are irresponsible people burying them in the sand after they have finished with them, which are a danger to children running across the sand and at risk of catching light where there is Marram grass or other dry vegetation in close proximity. Ok, so we've had a lot of rain today, but prior to that we have had an unusual run of many days of no rain at all. I can't imagine wild fires taking hold here, the entire mainland could be at risk. We certainly don't have the amount of fire engines here for a large scale fire. People need to think sensibly about the disposal of their barbecues and certainly should not be lighting any campfires and dropping/throwing cigarette butts. I read on FB recently that walkers had found remnants of campfires in Kergord woods, totally and utterly irresponsible! When I was a lass, there was no such thing as barbecues, we had sandwiches if we went out for the day! Do we really need to do barbecues outside of our homes, no we don't! You can put together a fantastic picnic without the need of a barbecue out in the countryside.
