Rod from Shetland Fireplaces arrived at just before 6pm. In order to clean the chimney, the wood burning stove had to be removed out of the fireplace and the pipe above was a real pain to remove – Rod said it was because it was really long and didn't need to be (long story short). After cleaning the chimney, which only resulted in half a large plastic bag worth of soot and carrying out an inspection, the new rain proof "Colt Top Chimney Cowl" was put in place. Rod said the chimney was not lined, but looked in fairly good condition.

My living room currently looks like a war zone as the woodburning stove is sitting in the middle of the room along with various attachments, pipes etc. Large tiles behind the stove were so loose, they just fell off – Rod needs to be buy some specialist stuff to fix them back on and needs to return tomorrow, but I need to finish work a bit earlier to allow him to finish the job in time (permission granted from Jen 😊). This will mean a higher cost than I expected. Then the stove can be put back in place and then finally Rod is going to inspect my other closed up chimney to give me his verdict on the wet wall of the chimney breast – I'm hoping that a new cowl at that end of the house, may fix the issue, but knowing my luck, probably not.

Keeping my fingers crossed for a big Premium Bond win tomorrow! 🤞
