Busy Weekend!

I think it must be the longest I haven't been birding properly over the last few weeks – very poor show! Saturday was spent doing jobs and buying a few extra bits for my Work's Christmas Party attire this coming Friday. Delivered some extra shopping to Mother in the evening – she was hugging a hot water bottle when I arrived and felt shivery. Today I was at work all day, then whizzed home, changed and went straight out again to visit Father – he had almost run out of chocolate, until I topped up his supplies this evening! He does love his chocolate and ate five mini 'twirl bites' one after the other! Vivien was also visiting him, so we had a good catch up. Summerville Care Home have got a massive lit up (looks 9ft tall), blow up snowman to greet you at the front entrance and the most brilliant Christmas tree in the lounge – all looking very festive.

Father was quite confused this evening and although he seemed to know that we were there, he was going on about nine people and policemen and would they be able to get into his room, was his door locked and various other odd things – none of which made any sense at all. I could see that he was hallucinating, as he was looking up towards the ceiling intently and could see all kinds of things. I tried to reassure him and to bring him back to time and place and remind him where he was, what the date was etc, but it only helped for a few moments. So very sad to lose your mind, I really hope I take after Mother when I get older, she still has her marbles – well to a degree anyway!

The novelty of scraping ice off the car every morning is getting tedious, roll on Spring! I must check the Pied Wagtail roost at the QEH in the week – there could be a 'Masked' amongst them! So many jobs and errands to do at the moment, its a job to keep up with everything. Looking forward to the Christmas break: Saturday 24th, Sunday 25th, Monday 26th and Tuesday 27th off! I even might get a chance to do some 'hot' birding!!!

Pied Wagtail Roost At The QEH!

One of my colleagues Jane Veall, recently discovered a wonderful Pied Wagtail Roost in one of the courtyard gardens at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. I went to have a look yesterday – what a spectacle! At least a couple of hundred were roosting in some bushes in a small courtyard garden. I got some funny looks from other staff and visitors, as I was peering through the windows from the corridor and had to explain what I was doing several times over! It was like being at a party – a bird party. Every so often, something would scare them and they would fly up amongst the lights and then return to the bushes, jostling for the best and warmest positions. They were magical to watch, as they flitted around the bright green leaves in the lights and the volume of noise from their calls was a joy. A good find, well done Jane!

Hot News!

So far, I have lost 6lbs in my new slimming venture – hoping to be considerably slimmer again by Spring – that's the plan anyway! Only been following the SW diet for two weeks, so pretty pleased. Cooked a wonderful Vegetarian Paella this evening – took ages to make, but it was worth it.

My Mother and I visited Father on Sunday, who looked pretty well – helped him with his tea, he seems to have a much better appetite at teatime than when he was at home, which is good. It was toasty warm in the care home, good job he is where he is, as it isn't exactly hot in Mother's house – its always been a cool house, which is an advantageous in the summer months, but rubbish for the rest of the year!

My sister Lucy played 2nd Violin in her first concert of the season at the Corn Exchange in King's Lynn on Sunday – so pleased she is continuing with this.

It's Andy Wilkinson's 50th birthday this Saturday! Another one to join the fifty's club! I havn't got my party invite yet Andy – it must have got lost in the post?!!!

I really enjoyed watching the first part of the documentary on Fair Isle this week, just makes me want to be there again even more.

I see the Isabelline Wheatear has returned to Burnham Overy Dunes again – I am guessing its been chilling out on Scolt Head Island over the last few weeks, hence no news maybe?!

I don't know where the year has disappeared to, but it will soon be Christmas! We have our work team's Christmas Party next Friday – my once a year social event!!! Well, actually I have three events this year, another party and a Christmas lunch – lucky me!!!

I have been feeling pretty down in the dumps over the last few weeks, hence no personal bird news or pictures posted – mostly due to sad family goings on and other stuff. Things seem to be settling again re family stuff to a degree and kind of like normal again, whatever normal is! 2016 has not been an easy year at all for my family – the best thing that happened, was Father reaching his 90th birthday!
