How you can help to turn this around? Firstly don't use any pesticides in your garden – you are killing life! It doesn't matter if your drive or patio has a few weeds and doesn't look as neat as your neighbours, but if you are bothered, dig them out with a trowl. Neat and tidy, concrete, decking, gravel and lack of plants in gardens is killing off our insects and in turn will kill us off as a species – watch the video above to understand why. Add some plants to your garden to encourage butterflies and insects to visit your garden – recommended plants here. Build a pond in your garden to attract wildlife including dragonflies, butterflies, water boatman, tadpoles, frogs, toads, birds – the list goes on. Getting your children involved is extremely important – currently we have a nation of children who are not (generally) taught or shown anything in the natural world. Smart phones, computer games and TV's are not good for the soul. It doesn't matter if you live in a town or the countryside, nature is everywhere – get out there!
