I knew that it would have been a brilliant day to be out birding with the new selection of birds in my garden early this morning. There had obviously been a fall of birds today. The ginger and white cat had presumably caught one of my Collared Doves as there were a good number of feathers in the garden – I'm hoping it was just a scrap and the dove got away, fingers crossed. It was a fairly bright day and little wind, well far less than yesterday anyway!

There were 3 Siskins on the feeders and a stunning male Blackcap feeding on small flies amongst the rosa rugosa leaves – this is very unusual in my small front garden and another garden tick! I then saw 4 birds fly in to the very tall trees opposite my house and when I checked them out, they were 4 Goldfinches!!! I didn't see the Hawfinch initially, but it put in a brief appearance just before I had to leave for work.

This evening there were 5 Siskins on the feeders and 3 of the Goldfinches! It was a sunny evening, but I had to find new car insurance as my renewal was too high (saved £100) and then it was too late to out, although I did walk to the end of my road and back, but anything that was around had gone to roost.

There was quite a lot of news on the WhatsApp group today of Spring migrants including Common Tern, Arctic Tern, Cuckoo (earliest previous record here was 15th April), Fieldfares, Willow Warblers, Common Whitethroat, Chiffchaffs, Blackcaps, Swallows, Goldcrests, Wheatears, Goldfinches, Stonechat, Black Redstart, Redstart, Ring Ouzel etc.
