No news.
The weather of course was a gloriously sunny day being as I was back at work! I didn't saw the Hawfinch before work or when I returned but did see 1 Goldfinch, 8 Siskins and 1 Robin in the garden.
Went birding in Lerwick after work. At Pullar's Loch there was nothing of note, but at West Hall off Sea Road I had a huge surprise of a Water Rail feeding and then running across the drive in front of the garage in the garden! No pictures obtained at all, far too quick for me! I hung around but it remained hidden in the garden shrubs next to the high stone wall. There were 3 Woodpigeons in the adjacent field. I was hoping for a wagtail in the horse paddocks, but no horses, so no manure, no flies and no wagtails!
Along the road leading to Helendale House I had a single Goldcrest and 2 Chiffchaffs flycatching together and there was an Otter in Clickimin Loch swimming with a very large fish (no idea what type of fish). Checked out the top of Helendale Terrace but no birds seen apart from Hooded Crows. Went to the Burn of Sound and all I found was a very large Black Alsatian type dog that appeared suddenly with a huge "woof" with its paws resting on the top of the fence in a garden which is very close to the path, so won't bother going there again in a hurry.
Back in Scalloway there were 2 Woodpigeons and a Chiffchaff singing in the Sunken Garden by Lover's Lane and back home there were Siskins still on my feeders but no sign again of the Hawfinch. Cleaned the bird baths out, lit the fire and cooked tea. Looks a much better weather forecast for this week. 🌞
