Rare Bird Alert News
MAINLAND
A very striking male Chaffinch was new in the garden today along with four male blackbirds strutting around trying to move each other on, which was amusing to watch. I wasn't able to go out this morning but searched all the usual spots for the Bonaparte's Gull this afternoon. Fabulous watching the waves crashing over the rocks along Sea Road to Pullar's Loch. Spent a long time sitting in my car at Shetland Catch which I really enjoyed. Very therapeutic sitting here watching all the gulls and also saw two Long-tailed Ducks, several Eiders and Black Guillemots, Shag x 2, Kittiwakes, Fulmars, Black-headed Gulls, Herring Gulls and a couple of Great Black-backed Gulls. Later on I checked the marina by the Textile museum and I realise now that the gull sitting on some seaweed covered rocks was more than probably the Bonaparte's Gull as I was driving past – I will return in the morning to have a look before work.
Bonaparte's Gull at Pullar's Loch, Fjara and in field at south end of Clickimin Loch, Lerwick.
