Rare Bird Alert News
MAINLAND
I felt so tired from work that I went straight home. Another new bird feeder from Kingsyard arrived today, so after hanging this up and changing round a few feeders I sat indoors watching the birds for a while and to my surprise both Hawfinches dropped in for a short while! Naturally I didn't have my phone/camera next to me at that point, so crept back to the kitchen to get my phone, returned and of course the Hawfinches had gone, so no pictures! Also 9 Siskins happily feeding on my new feeders, which was lovely to see and then a little later 2 Goldfinches also put in an appearance! I have filled this hanging bird table with several apples and some sultanas – its the same recycled plastic as my other new feeders and again has a lifetime guarantee.
Iceland Gull at north end of Loch of Spiggie.
King Eider fem. half a mile north of Bressay Ferry Terminal, Lerwick.
Hawfinches x 2 again in garden at Ladysmith Road, Scalloway.
ISLANDS
Hawfinch at Mid Yell, Yell.
Not too much 'common' bird news from here today, but someone did have a Great Spotted Woodpecker at Toogs, Burra. It would be great to see one in my garden, fingers crossed!
