Norfolk Grey Wagtail Survey 2011-2012

Andy Wilkinson and Justin Lansdell

Hello,

We are undertaking a study of the breeding Grey Wagtail (Motacilla Cinerea) population in Norfolk over the 2011 & 2012 breeding seasons.

The purpose of this survey is to establish a realistic breeding population estimate for this locally scarce and poorly studied (In a Norfolk context) species, with the aim of publishing the data following the completion of the survey at the end of the 2012 breeding season.

The survey area encapsulates the whole of Norfolk including the watercourses such as the Waveney, Little Ouse etc which form the County boundary.

How can you help ?

We have spent many man hours over the past two months surveying various potential breeding sites across the County to check for breeding activity, covering nearly 70 sites thus far. We are realistic enough to realise that we can not visit every possible breeding site or discover every breeding pair in one season.

Therefore to ensure that the survey is as comprehensive as possible, we would be most grateful to receive any records of breeding Grey Wagtail in the County this year or birds seen in suitable breeding habitat this summer.

Please send your records to either;

andy.wilkinson@yahoo.co.uk or justinlansdell@mail.vu

Many Thanks

Andy & Justy
