  1. Hi Penny - today (Thur) my husband Tim took pictures of a Harlequin Duck at Snettisham beach (where we have a holiday home). It's the most beautiful creature! I looked it up online to check I was right in my guess, and found it easily - but as far as I can tell from a quick google, it's mainly found in America and a rare visitor to our shores. I found you online during my search, and thought you might be interested.

  2. Me again - I don't want to be anonymous, but I don't know what I'm supposed to do to provide a 'host name' as it says when I try to enter my name and email address. I'm Jill, and my email address is jillryanbrowne@aol.com. My husband seems to have taken the picture on the very doorstep of our holiday home at Snettisham beach! (I'm down at home in Swindon, Wiltshire at the moment!)

  3. Hello once again Penny....having told you I thought we had a harlequin duck visiting our holiday home at Snettisham beach, I've looked a bit more closely at the images and compared them with Tim's photo and concluded that actually it was a mandarin duck - just as beautiful but probably not as rare! Sorry for jumping to the wrong conclusion - hope this isn't too much of a let-down! Best wishes, Jill

  4. Hi Jill, thanks for letting me know. I must admit I'm glad I saw all three of your messages at the same time, rather than just the first two before you sent the third! Harlequin Duck would have been a first for Norfolk and would have got birders and twitchers flocking in droves to Snettisham. Mind you, Mandarin duck is STILL a fabulous duck to see, so thanks very much for your correspondence. Best Wishes Penny
