Rare Bird Alert News
MAINLAND
Lovely day here. Headed south. It was fascinating to drive up to Mossy Hill to find quite a bit of snow up there! I was hoping for an early Ring Ouzel or a Wheatear maybe, but only found Hooded Crows, a few Curlew and Meadow Pipits – fabulous views from up here as always. Saw the Red-necked Grebe at the marina at Loch of Virkie which was showing well along with a Black Guillimot. Found 2 Pied Wagtails in the quarry along the road to Sumburgh Head. No Puffins yet, when I looked from the viewing point by the lighthouse. The day ended far too quickly! Back to work tomorrow. South easterlies overnight and all day tomorrow with 43mph winds could bring in some Spring migrants for us!
Red-necked Grebe still at marina, Pool of Virkie.
Ring-necked Duck drk at Loch of Housetter.
Ring-necked Duck still at Loch of Asta.
ISLANDS
Black Redstart at Mid Yell, Yell.
Iceland Gull by fish factory at Isle of Bressay.
