A gorgeous sunny day here until later! Checked out various spots for migrants in Scalloway, nothing found apart from the leucistic House Sparrow that arrived on my feeders recently. At Uradale Farm at East Voe I found 6 Chaffinches and enjoyed watching 3 Meadow Pipits feeding along the track. At The Trondra Planation I found my first Painted Lady butterfly this year! Met and had a lovely chat with the lady who lives in the lower house behind the plantation who was tending to her hens.

Checked out the plantation near the Trondra Bridge – couple of Blackbirds. Had a nap in the car. I was going to go back to the Siberian Thrush, but really wanted to find my own birds.

Headed to Lunna Kirk and checked out the belt of sycamores where there was a Veery on 29th September 2023, which I won't ever forget! There was a bird scarer set up and pointing into this sycamores, I don't know why? Spent ages untying the sheep gate and tying it back up and then spent a long time scanning the leaf litter under the trees. Only thing found was one Goldcrest, a Blackbird, Wren and a few Starlings. Returned to the car and headed up towards the farm area and checked out all of this area including the horse paddock, which held around 5 Blackbirds, 1 Song Thrush, a Wren, 2 Chaffinches a Northern Wheatear and Starlings. Raining now and wind picking up big time!

Checked out scrub on route back, found a Northern Wheatear in a quarry, nothing else. Cruised home via Tesco for mini shop. I hadn't realised that I had driven past a Rustic Bunting, which is a little annoying, but there we go! Massive gale going on here, probably the strongest winds since I moved here. Storm Amy is going for it big time!
