Storm Petrel in Scalloway Harbour!

STORM PETREL
Scalloway Harbour!

This may be very shocking to many birders, but this has been a boogie bird of mine my entire life. I never saw one in Norfolk. Good sea watches were either when I was at work or I was simply unlucky, like the time when seawatching at Cley Coastguards with Pete Snook and others – when Nancy's Cafe was still there, I had just nipped to the loo and when I had returned I had missed a Storm Petrel. Its been an ongoing saga!!!

So it may be embarrasing to confess, but this morning was my FIRST Storm Petrel anywhere! Ok, I didn't get any mint pictures, but the experience of watching this magical little bird dance amongst the waves was very emotional indeed. This is why I had to rush home and make a special blog post! I scanned the harbour from my driveway a short while ago and managed to see one in the harbour too – you couldn't make it up!!! House tick! 🎉

UPDATE!
Just found it today (7th October) why none of my pictures of the Storm Petrel were sharp! Whilst photographing the Siberian Thrush this evening, I discovered the image stabilization butten was switched off!!!! Note to self: always, always check the camera settings! I wondered why Hugh Harrop (same camera as mine) and Norfolk birder Marcus Nash both had mint pictures and none of mine were. Actually, considering this, they are not too bad for handheld without the image stabilization button on! LOL!
