The Blue-cheeked Bee-eater remains on North Ronaldsay for a ninth day!
More stupendous views of the BLUE-CHEEKED BEE EATER on North Ronaldsay in the willows, 8ft away in late afternoon sunshine. Red-necked Phalarope, Short-eared Owl, Merlin seen and after walking a very long way to the lighthouse I checked out a garden close by. Sycamores were behind a stone wall and I was viewing over a stonewall from the road. A warbler was feeding on insects - someone else had found a Willow Warbler in the same willows the BCBE was earlier, so thought this was a second, wrong colouring - a lightish brown colour, slim billed, but not needle like so that ruled out Booted. Messaged Warden George Gay with a back of camera shot who said ‘my gut is that it’s an Acro, we’ll come up! Long story short for now, after much debate by those in the field asking thoughts from Ashley Saunders (Norfolk birder) and also asked Hugh H too. It was eventually concluded that I had found a BLYTH’S REED WARBLER!!!! Can this trip get any better? One day left, fly back tomorrow and don’t want to leave!!! Dinner this evening was also insane - they unknowingly made my favourite meal: Nut Roast, Yorkshire, roasted potatoes etc following toffee ice-cream sundae! The food here is top draw!
